2024 Local Election Candidates
Euxton – Madeleine Houghton
“My name is Madeleine, I’m a recent University graduate who has just moved back home to Chorley and started a new job as a trainee solicitor. Since moving back home and getting involved in my local Green party I have been inspired by how hard-working and enthusiastic my fellow party members are about keeping our community safe and beautiful.
“I have enjoyed meeting citizens of Chorley through campaigning, and want to ensure their voices are represented clearly and fairly by the Council. I also recently took part in the Green Party’s national Young Greens ’30 under 30′ programme, and want to make sure young people who are often ignored or overlooked are represented in politics!”
Chorley North & Astley – Jon Royle
“My name is Jon. I have lived in the Chorley area for more than 20 years. I have a great appreciation for this area and its community. I enjoy fell running on the moors, playing my trumpet in a music group, and canoeing on the canal. I have only recently become involved with the Green Party as I am passionate about environmental justice. I believe that the government’s action, both locally and nationally, on green issues is fundamental in protecting future generations. I am looking forward to giving people in the area the opportunity to vote Green.”
Adlington and Anderton – Sally Felton
I was born and brought up near Hull and moved to Lancashire in the early 1970s to study at Edge Hill. I have lived in the villages around Chorley since the late 1970s – my sons both attended schools in Chorley. I have been retired for ten years after working as a primary school teacher and headteacher in Blackburn for nearly forty years.
I have been a volunteer with Chorley Green Party for three years and I am standing as a candidate because I believe that environmental issues should be at the heart of decision-making in all council departments. A green voice at the table is desperately needed to make this happen.
Chorley North East – Simon Cash
Simon was born in Northumberland and has lived in Clayton Le Woods for 24 years with his family. He is a Chartered Chemical Engineer with 36 years working under his belt and has worked on numerous brownfield projects in Lancashire supporting local growth. He has also been involved in STEM and school liaison activities.
“I have always had a passion for outdoor activities including hillwalking, cycling, and birdwatching and know how important it is to preserve our green spaces whilst developing the local area. The projects I have worked on have minimised the erosion of the environment through engineering innovation while also increasing manufacturing viability in the area. We need clean efficient local industry and to increase the wellbeing of the people in our area.”
Chorley North West – Mark Tebbutt
Mark is Chorley born & bred. He ran the Broadband 4 Brinscall campaign back in 2002 helping to bring broadband to Brinscall and the surrounding villages for the first time. He has been monitoring air pollution in the borough since October 2017 and tirelessly lobbying both Chorley and the County Council to start monitoring PM2.5 pollution. Mark works in IT and has a keen interest in Climate Change.
Chorley South East & Heath Charnock – Jane Weston
Jane is Chorley born and bred. She works at a veterinary practice in Bolton.
“Whilst Chorley are making progress on green issues, more needs to be done and faster. I would want to see environmental decisions placed front and centre of all policies. I want to campaign to reinstate our 24 hour A&E department at Chorley hospital.”
Chorley South West – Olga Cash
“I live in Chorley with my husband and have been working at universities in Lancashire for the last 26 years. I have a lot of experience in organisational change, supporting young people, and delivering well-being initiatives. I am no stranger to rolling up my sleeves and getting stuck in – as my hard work in Chorley South West has shown.
I love living here and know there are many ways our corner of Chorley could be improved – having an active, hardworking local councillor, who listens to residents and is here all year, not just at election time, is a large part of that. The Green Party came second in the last election and this year we are certain we can win!”
Croston, Mawdesley & Euxton South – John Clare
“I live in Mawdesley with my wife and two children. I was lucky enough to be brought up here, and have lived here for most of my life. I work locally as a Counsellor, working from a school and also from a local charity. I am worried about our world, its environment and its peoples.
“The Green Party’s focus on the environment and the wellbeing of us all, seems to offer a realistic prospect for sustainable change. I am standing in these upcoming local elections in order to offer local voters a choice to vote for the Green Party.”
Clayton West & Cuerden – Clare Hales
Clare lives in Clayton Le Woods with her young family. She is a former teacher and enjoys engaging in community efforts. She believes strongly that the area needs better provision of services, such as school places and access to dental care, to accommodate the ever-growing population. Clare would be an articulate voice against the overdevelopment of our area and hold the council accountable for the decisions they make. She would also like to see a properly maintained Christmas tree planted on the green in Clayton Brook, and one across from Lidl, so no money is wasted on a new tree each year and it will grow bigger and more of a spectacle each year.
Chorley East – Catherine Hunter Rossall
Catherine has lived in Chorley most of her life and now has young children. She works in Preston and in her spare time knits, plays saxophone and walks or visits parks. She is a committed Christian.
“I want to help maintain the things I love about Chorley for future generations, such as its close knit communities and green spaces. Since becoming a mum I am also increasingly conscious of the amenities and infrastructure that we all use and depend on – such as GPs, the hospital, parks, public transport, schools, shops and our libraries – as a councillor I would work hard to ensure these services work for everyone.”
Coppull – Anne Calderbank
“I want to be a Green councillor in Chorley, because action on climate change is so vital these next few years. We need the dedication and focus of the Green Party, both locally and nationally.”
Eccleston, Heskin and Charnock Richard – Sef Churchill
“I’ve lived in Chorley for 17 years, and I work full-time in IT. I’m horrified by recent governments’ actions in reversing green policies –fracking, oil drilling – as well as by their ‘economic growth is everything’ approach, which ignores other measures of success and relies on increasing the profits of a few based on the hard work of the many. Whilst I want to see sweeping new climate policies at government level, it is vital that we consider Green principles at local level too. Every day our natural environment is threatened by development, and it always seems like the ‘eco’ rules are done to the bare minimum.
“At the same time, I live in the real world. It’s hard for any of us to live sustainably, because of the way systems are set up for profit – such as transport, and local services. This needs to change.”
Clayton East, Brindle & Hoghton – Pauline Summers
I grew up in Chorley going to local schools and brought up my own children here. I am passionate about the environment at a local level as well as globally.
I believe we need to look after the world we live in for future generations and that starts at home with small actions such as recycling, looking after our green areas and teaching our children the importance of caring for animals and plants as well as other people.
As a Green councillor I would promote Green policies at local government level and endeavour to have a Green voice heard on Chorley Borough Council.
